The Air Venturi Springfield Armory M1A Underlever. 22 Pellet Rifle with Scope Mount and Sling. With a long history of military use, the M1A proved to be an impressive weapon.
Now, under the Springfield Armory licensing, Air Venturi was able to introduce the M1A pellet rifle. Keeping accuracy and faithful reproduction of this rifle in mind, Air Venturi designed and produced their M1A pellet rifle with a fixed blued barrel to keep the rifles design true to this legendary firearm. They also added a beautifully stained hardwood stock which provides the heft and solid feel that M1A owners of the real rifle would not expect to find on an airgun. The M1A pellet rifles actual weight comes in at 9.9 pounds, which is almost identical to the National Match version of this rifle.
Continuing to keep this air rifle true to form, the rear windage and elevation sight was designed with that same familiarity of the real M1A. The rear peep sight that sits in the back of the action is fully adjustable and it can be adjusted to line up perfectly with the fixed blade front sight in order to place your shots dead on target. You also have the option to use a scope for those not so hard-core purist M1A fans. This air rifle comes with an M1A scope mount that has standard picatinny/weaver rails. It mounts to the threaded holes on the left-hand side of the action just like the real M1A. This mount gives you the option to mount any scope that you might want to mount on this rifle for target shooting or small game hunting. Air Venturi also made this M1A pellet rifle with the idea in mind to give you a familiar shooting experience that would be similar to the real M1A rifle, and at a fraction of the cost to own and shoot. This M1A pellet rifle uses pellets that are dirt cheap when you compare them to centerfire ammunition used in a real M1A rifle, and just as important. The centerfire M1A ammunition is not as readily available as pellets.
Pellets also come in a wide variety of weights and designs which can also be used with this rifle. The M1A is an absolutely massive rifle as is the Air Venturi replica, and if you own or used the real M1A you are very aware of this fact. The dimensions of this air rifle are just a hair larger than the real M1A, and it weighs in at a whopping 9.9 lbs. That's about half a pound heavier than the actual standard rifle. The beautifully stained hardwood stock provides the same heft and feel as the real M1A with a few exceptions, and the biggest one being the missing protruding magazine. This M1A air rifle was so closely replicated after the real M1A that it could easily be mistaken at first glance for the real M1A rifle. The particulars of this pellet rifle will seem familiar to anyone who has ever fired a real M1A rifle. The safety is a pivoting tab in the front of the trigger guard, and the trigger has the same smooth predictable take-up and crisp break. The rear sight easily adjusts for both windage and elevation in the same manner as the original.
Bringing the heavy gun up to your shoulder creates the same cheek weld and ergonomic interface as the classic American M1A rifle. So, how do you go about shooting this air rifle? Well, the answer is simple. This M1A pellet rifle is a spring-action air rifle with a cocking force of 35 pounds and pushes pellets at a max velocity of 800 feet per second. You'll find the way the Air Venturi folks adapted this pellet rifle to fit the M1A format is nothing short of incredible. 22 pellet rifle with the 35lbs of cocking effort is made easier due to an extendable cocking lever that can be quickly deployed before cocking the rifle in order to gain leverage during the cocking motion.
Thankfully, this extension doesn't dampen the authentic look of the rifle as it is disguised as the gas piston on the real rifle. The cocking lever simply snaps loose from the barrel and pivots downward, and the end of this charging handle will slide out another six or so inches for that added leverage if needed. By pulling the cocking lever downward, it in turn slides the forearm forward, which opens the upper hand guard where it exposes a generous loading area. You simply pull the cocking lever downward until you feel and hear the anti-bear trap safety mechanism fully engage. While still holding back on the cocking lever to assure that your fingers don't get caught in the breech if the anti-bear trap safety mechanism should fail, you then place a pellet into the bore of the rifle barrel. Once you have placed the pellet into the bore, you can then press the lever on the left side of the action of what would be the bolt catch on the real gun. Once you release the cocking lever, you can then swing it back around and snap it back into the holding bracket on the underside of the barrel. The Air Venturi crew did a terrific job of recreating this classic Springfield Armory M1A rifle. However, they did come up short in some areas. The safety is a pivoting tab on the front of the trigger guard just like the real M1A. Its operation however is opposite that of the real M1A. On the M1A pellet rifle, forward is safe and the rear position is fire. The right-sided charging handle is spring loaded and moves back and forth just like that of the real M1A. However, it is only there for the aesthetics and does not function when the rifle is fired. Then there's the flash suppressor that sadly is made of polymer. No doubt most M1A enthusiast would have gladly payed the extra cost to have had one made of metal. Last is the fact that this pellet rifle has to have pellets hand placed one pellet at a time making the rate of fire dependently and solely upon your enthusiasm and stamina. All in all, when it's said and done, you'll have to admit. The Air Venturi Springfield Armory M1A underlever.22 pellet rifle is a great reproduction of the real M1A rifle. Just holding this rifle as you fire it leaves you feeling like you have the real McCoy in your hands. Of course, with the exception of not having that protruding magazine. However, it's just this kind of pure shooting enjoyment that draws us all into this fun-loving sport in the first place.
Then you just can't go wrong with this fantastic replica of the real M1A rifle that Air Venturi somehow found that perfect blend of realism and utility, and then managed to place it into an airgun that is well deserving of the legendary Springfield Armory name. Extendable Underlever for added leverage while cocking. Up to 850 FPS depending on the pellet used. Sliding breech cover exposes loading port during cocking cycle.
