Feinwerkbau 300S Match Air Rifle. The serial number indicates this is a 300S.

However, the model number engraved on the gun says clearly "Model 300". The stock is for a 300, as is the cocking lever. To solve this puzzlement, I wrote to Feinwerkbau, seeking their assistance. They kindly replied the next day with the following.

According to serial number 118243, the Feinwerkbau Model 300 was manufactured in May 1973. For these old models, we unfortunately only have the corresponding gun books in the archives, which only show the date of manufacture of the system, but not with which stock the rifle was delivered. According to the date of manufacture, it should be a 300S model.

Why the S is not present in the engraving, we cannot understand. Whether the classic 300 stock was fitted at the customer's request will unfortunately also remain a mystery. We are really sorry, but after fifty years we can unfortunately no longer trace the history of the weapon. A total of 328,000 units of the 300 / 300S model were produced.

Note that production of the Model 300 ceased in 1972, the year before this gun was produced. Cocks easily and shoots with good power. It appears, though, to need a new seal where the air hits the pellet. I apologize that I don't know the proper name for this seal. It does not require any dismantling to replace, and should take only a few moments to put in place. I have had this gun for many years. The bluing on part of the barrel has worn off. It doesn't show well in a photograph. The stock is excellent, with no damage. I did several stocks from guns in my collection a few years ago, but didn't record which ones they were. There is no rust that I can see. The 300S is one of the most desirable match air rifles. I have tried to describe this gun accurately. The gun comes with the hard case shown in the photo. The Bushnell scope will be removed and packed separately.
